Belleville at a Glance
Founded by Empire loyalists in 1784, Belleville's historic roots run deep and
are kept alive at the Glanmore
National Historic Site. The building's eye-catching architecture is complimented
by the antiques and furniture of an upper-class home at the turn of the 20th century.
On the streets, old-world craftsmanship is for sale in Belleville's many antique
shops. Belleville is home to a selection of boutiques, gift shops and quaint cafes,
perfect for a day of shopping. Art and theatre also play a major role in the life
of Belleville. The town itself boasts several homegrown theatres, including the
Empire
Theatre and the Belleville
Theatre Guild. For a faster-paced experience, Belleville has its share of
adrenalin-inducing raceways, accomodating both horses and motor sports. Resting
on the shores of the Bay of Quinte, Belleville also offers boaters an opportunity
to sail and fish the local waters, a pastime celebrated annually during the Waterfront
Festival.
